… NOT EVERY OIL SUITS EVERY HAIR TYPE
You can feel disappointed but it is crucial. Hair oils are built of particles. Their size must be suitable for the condition of our hair cuticles. The criterion that describes the position of hair cuticles is called POROSITY.
Hair porosity tells us a lot about the condition, shape and appearance of our hair as well as the hair care routine that we should follow. Every type of porosity has its qualities.
There are three degrees of porosity:
- LOW POROSITY HAIR – thick and dense, quite heavy so gets greasy very quickly. It is hard to style because it’s stiff.
- MEDIUM POROSITY HAIR – often gets frizzy, easy to overdry and damage with improper care. It is sometimes shiny but it may start to get dull and unruly with a change of a shampoo or conditioner. Such strands can tangle and fall out; hair ends are usually in a far poorer shape than lengths.
- HIGH POROSITY HAIR – this type of hair is in a bad shape. Weak, brittle, dull or rough, dingy. Hair ends are devastated. Hair lacks volume and density. It quickly soaks in water. After washing, it air-dries very quickly.
How to identify hair porosity?
The easiest way to determine hair porosity is observing one’s hair carefully. The highest percent of world’s population has medium porosity hair (somewhere between thick, heavy, quite strong, healthy hair and damaged, dry, high porosity strands).
How to choose a proper oil for your hair porosity?
You will sigh with relief when we tell you that it’s not at all complicated. If you know your hair porosity, you’re halfway there!
There are groups of oils that match every porosity:
- Low porosity hair likes: shea butter, cocoa butter, babassu butter and coconut oil.
- Medium porosity hair likes: argan, macadamia, sweet almond, sesame and olive oil.
- High porosity hair likes: grapeseed, sunflower, linseed, black seed and corn oil.
